At age 14, Evelyn Mo is a freshman at Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology in Alexandria, Virginia. She currently studies with Dr. Thomas Mastroianni of Catholic University. Evelyn has won awards in many piano competitions, including first prize at the 2012 Blount-Slawson Young Artist Concerto Competition, first prize at the 2011 Chopin International piano competition in Hartford, CT, first prize at the 2011 MSMTA Beethoven Sonata Competition. She was two time national finalists at the MTNA Junior Piano Competition and has appeared on NPR’s ‘From the Top’ program. This year she has been selected as competitor at the 2013 Hilton Head International Young Artist Piano Competition and the 2013 Minnesota International Piano e-Competition.
Evelyn also plays violin, and is currently the co-concertmaster at the American Youth Philharmonic Symphonic Orchestra. She has won top prizes at Washington Performing Arts Society String competition, Landon School Symphony Concerto Competition and was a finalist at Fairfax Symphony Concerto Competition in 2012.
Evelyn loves reading, writing, and math. In 2011, she won 1st place of Virginia for Grade 8 at the Math League National Competition. Her poem has been published in the Creative Communication’s “A Celebration of Poets” book and her writing has been selected as a national winner in the National Council of English Teacher’s Promising Young Writers National Competition. Last year, she got 3rd place at the State level Science Olympiad Competition.
